Abstract: This article is a report by a British Music Therapist describing her travels to Canada and America on a Winston Churchill Fellowship. The article draws comparisons between methods of music therapy practised mainly in psychiatry in Great Britain and North America. The trip described included visits to over 20 music therapists, working with the mentally ill, and the article concentrates on a visit to one centre in New York - The Bronx Psychiatric Centre. Issues concerning management and planning are covered, in addititon to the role of music therapy in rehabilitation, family work, group improvisation and other work eg. life-skills. A list of literature collected on the trip (in l985) is included.
