Abstract: Of acupuncture in parturition pain treatment was leading to transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) without disturbing needles.A pilot study in 56 patients has shown efficacy of 91 %. In a further controlled study of TENS vs. pethidin/N20 (n = 92) the effective ratio was 94%:88%. Apgar scores of newborn were significantly better using TENS.TENS is an important addition of the analgetic spectrum especially during the first parturition stage.
