Abstract: Recently music therapists have become increasingly interested in establishing music therapy programs in general medical hospitals. This article delineates a plan of action for music therapists wishing to generate job opportunities in physical medicine facilities. First, three informational areas in which to educate doctors and hospital administrators are discussed. These include the uses and values of music therapy in a general hospital, music therapy as a cost-effective treatment, and the history of music and healing. Secondly, the article proposes several strategies for presenting pertinent information, including participation at existing staff meetings, setting up voluntary demonstration with patients, and increased research.
