Abstract: Science, which objectively records a constantly changeing world and is as such an observer of the past, has its counterweight in art as a mediator of the future, open to the unexpected and incalculable. Although the therapiest must take account of his patient's past, it is even more important that he should be able to anticipate what lies in the patient's future (based on the hope principle). Music and the plastic and graphic arts as well as other art forms provide the basis for creative progress in therapy. The development this century of many new non-medical therapy techniques indicates - apart from its methodical implication - the changing pattern of therapeutics. Here the integrative aspect is fundamental: we are dealing with a development that does not bypass traditional medicine but carries it along with it. One of the key terms of this integration is the process: in the therapeutic process for example both patient and therapist go through a personal transformation... ABSTRACT TRUNCATED
