Music Therapy with a Schizophrenic Patient

Abstract: This is a brief case study of a 34 year old schizophrenic woman who had individual music therapy sessions over a period of three and a half years. Initially the therapist aims to stimulate trust and to help her patient to overcome fear. The patient's progress is then described by examining the musical improvisations in the music therapy sessions. Although the patient's progress is sporadic, after three years there are definite signs of improvement.
