Guided Affective Imagery |
Abstract: LeunerÕs book is a ÔManualÕ: Basic Course material for the training in Guided Affective Imagery/GAI. It is divided in twenty (training) "sessions" (Chapters), and Appendix One gives an overview of the Intermediate and Advanced training levels. First step of the GAI technique is relaxation induction, second step is the induction of mental imagery. Third step is a return to normal awareness and a discussion. The session is tape recorded to keep a protocol (Leuner does not recommend transcripts made during the session). The core of the book and of the basic course are the sessions/chapters dealing with the use of 'standard motifs'. Based on "clinical empirical observations" (p.48) L. has identified a series of motifs, all with specific symbolic psychodynamic meaning, to be evoked and elaborated in the sessions.
