Argument for a Discussion on the Definition of Health |
Journal/Book: Musiktherapeutische Umschau. 1982; 3: Stuttgart. G. Fischer Verlag. 21-28..
Abstract: This paper endeavours to describe the attitude that is inherent in the concern about an adequate model for sickness: it also lists several epistemological implications and fallacies that commonly go with the use of the label "sickness". Instead it proposes the development of an adequate holistic model for optimal health (that incorporates sickness as a possible part of a growth process) thus expressing a different, more positive, more pragmatic and preventive attitude toward well-being. Optimal health is viewed as a process (not a state) of (wo)man in the multi-layered context of mind-body-environment. Several characteristics of a process of optimal health are described.
