Ego functions and their relevance for a conceptual approach to music therapy |
Journal/Book: Pratt Institute Creative Arts Therapy Review. 1981; 2: 52-59.
Abstract: Proposed a psychoanalytically rooted way of looking at what music therapy has to offer, focusing on ego functions as presented by L. Bellak et al (1973). The music therapist must be able to appreciate a person's musical behavior in terms of how it reflects the performance level of a specific ego function. Regulation and control of drives, affects, and impulses is presented; and how music therapy can enhance body image and its effect on an individual's ego boundaries are discussed. (16 ref)
