Art therapy: Agent in education

Abstract: Contends that the use of art, based on current learning theory and research in education and psychology, furnishes a unique and productive endeavor for the attainment of cognitive skills. It is concluded that the trained art therapist in an educational milieu offers skills that the artist or teacher alone does not possess. The art experience provided by such a clinician serves as an environmental microcosm in which the individual can safely test and manipulate ideas, feelings, and behavior to understand the relationship between inner and outer worlds, to learn from them, and to thrive within them.
