Nystulian Play Therapy: Applications of Adlerian psychology |
Journal/Book: Elementary School Guidance and Counseling. 1980; 15: 22-29.
Abstract: Introduces "Nystulian Play Therapy" (NPT), a counseling intervention directed toward elementary school children. Based on Adlerian psychology, V. M. Axline's therapeutic model, and the precepts of creative arts therapy, NPT represents a strategy for reducing aggressive behavior, promoting cognitive insight, and facilitating interpersonal adjustment. Primary techniques include rapport, encouragement, phenomenological understanding, and a redirection of each client's teleological movement. A case history illustrates the approach and its underlying assumptions. (12 ref)
