Some aspects of psychotic regression: A Schreber study |
Journal/Book: International Review of Psycho Analysis. 1980; 7: 2-10.
Abstract: Examines D. P. Schreber's (1903) autopathography and discusses forms of regression in connection with this case, which take the mother-child relationship for their model. It is demonstrated that (1) Schreber experienced dual thinking and underwent a regression, (2) his senses were dominated by regression, (3) in his illness he emulated his father, and (4) music played a role both in establishing his homosexual fantasy and in his perversion. Schreber's enthusiasm for music is interpreted as a force driving the sexual instincts toward regression. (French, German & Spanish abstracts)
