Abstract: Twelve immunodepressed children with malignancies and herpes virus infections were treated with a: thymus extract (TP-1). In all but one a good and sometimes dramatical clinical response was observed. There was in 5 patients an increase of peripheral T lymphocytes, in 7 of the total peripheral lymphocytes, in 6 of granulocytes, and in 2 of erythrocytes and platelets. The absence of an increase in E-rosette forming cells after in vitro incubation with TP-1, prior to treatment, and the rapid effectiveness of therapy suggest that the hormone acts an already differentiated T lymphocytes or influences the interferon production, as observed in mice.
