An investigation of Crocker's music projective techniques for emotionally disturbed children |
Journal/Book: Journal of Music Therapy. 1978; 15: 179-184.
Abstract: In treating 6 abused and emotionally disturbed children (3 boys aged 6, 6, and 12 yrs and 3 girls aged 6, 7, and 8 yrs), music was used as a stimulus for projection. Sessions were held twice a week for 4 mo. After accustoming the children to singing and story-telling, 2 songs of 16 measures each were presented. One was a fast song in a major key and one was a slow song in a minor key, and the children were asked to make up stories suggested by the songs. Of 96 stories composed, 24 were selected because they appeared to contain autobiographical material; these were submitted to 4 professionals working with the children. The judges were asked to identify the child who had created each story and the song that had prompted it. The correct responses by the judges were 74% for songs and 75% for stories ( p < .001).
