Creativity, art and play therapy |
Journal/Book: Canadian Counsellor. 1978; 12: 138-146.
Abstract: Discusses the role of the counselor in play therapy. Poetry, art, and music are but 3 of the media available to the play therapist in optimizing the child's self-help processes. The author emphasizes procedures and processes that encourage portrayal of modeling by both child and adult. Use of creative events in the counseling-learning process helps children bridge the gap between fantasy and reality. The author suggests that art and creativity may be a better conceptual base for counseling children and for building educational theory than other procedures such as the use of punching bags and boxing gloves. Such materials are seen as increasing the incidence of aggressive action and limiting more constructive encounters. (French abstract) (18 ref)
