Analgesie durch Vibration und Elektrostimulation über sogenannte Reaktionsstellen der Haut

Journal/Book: Physikalische Medizin und Rehabilitation. 1978; 19; Heft 2: 71-79.

Abstract: A new method in anaestesia is described, which was developed in the years between 1970 and 1973 in the department of anaesthesiology of the surgical centre at the Justus-Liebig University, Giessen. This method is based on electrostimulation and vibration applied to responsive locations of the skin which are identical with the so-called acupuncture points. Unlike Chinese acupuncture analgesia, this method avails itself of the intubation of the patient, which is carried out under a short narcosis, of the subsequent relaxation by means of anti-depolarizing curare derivatives, and of the assisted, 1. e. controlled respiration of the patient during the operation. This combined method enables the surgeon to operate in the cervical, thoracic, and abdominal space under the same conditions as with conventional methods of narcosis. The electrostimulation and vibration analgesia (ESA) applied to special responsive locations on the skin, can dispense with up to 80 per cent of the normally required amount of analgesics. The advantage of ESA is, in addition the immediate cooperation of tile patient after the operation with the time for recovery abridged considerably.
