Peter and the Wolf , a musical tale of individuation and the imagery of the new Soviet man: A psychoanalytic perspective on Russian culture history |
Journal/Book: Psychoanalytic Study of Society. 1976; 7: 1-63.
Abstract: Uses Soviet composer S. Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf to study the problems of persistence and change in Russian and Soviet ethnohistory and ethnopsychology. This "musical fairy tale" is considered a creative synthesis of a variety of pervasive themes in Russian cultural history which can help illuminate the psychocultural dynamics of the Russian Revolution and post-revolutionary Soviet culture and personality.
