Abstract: Isolated rat liver plasma membranes appear considerably stabilized by in vitro treatment with silymarin, as evidenced by their decreased susceptibility to the solubilizing activity of the ionic detergent Na deoxycholate. The effect is evident for drug concentrations between 0.5 and 10 mM and is not reversed by membrane washing. The possible significance of the phenomenon is discussed.
