The interactions of cations with acid mucopolysaccharides in solution have been treated as ion-exchange reactions. 2. The relative affinities of the cations Na+ K+ Mg2+ Ca2+ Sr2+ and Ba2+ for chondroitin sulphate A chondroitin sulphate B heparin and heparin monosulphate have been measured and recorded in the form of exchange parameters calculated from a Rothmund & Kornfeld (1918) equation. . . . .
