THE pH-log pCO2 BLOOD ACID-BASE NOMOGRAM REVISED |
Journal/Book: Reprinted from The Scandinavian Journal of Clinical & Laboratory Investigation. 1962. Vol. 14 No. 6.. 1962;
Abstract: From the Department of Clinical Chemistry Rigshospitalet Copenhagen Denmark Received for publication May 30 1962. SUMMARY The pH-log pCO2 nomogram is reconstructed an the basis of 4 titration experiments with special consideration to the maintenance of a normal ionic strength and normal osmolar concentration. On the basis of new normal values for blood sampled without sodium fluoride the base excess value is now defined as titratable base when titrating to pH 7.400 (previously 7.380) at pCO2 = 40 mm Hg at 38° C. The deviations between the new and the previous nomogram are discussed. The difference in the calculated values will probably have no clinical significance apart from the evaluation of small variations around the normal range. ___MH
