Activities of antioxidant enzymes in blood of ankylosing spondylitis patients

Journal/Book: Z Rheumatol 1998; 57 Suppl. 1: 82 (P 150). 1998;

Abstract: 1Research Institute for clinical-experimental rheumatology 2Volgograd medical Academy We observed 32 patients (30 male and 2 female) suffering from ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The disease was diagnosed on the base of modified New-York criteria. We determined the activities of Superoxide dismutase (SOD) Glutatione reductase (GR) Glutation peroxidase (GP) SOD isoenzymes and Malone dialdehide (MDA) contents in erythrocytes and plasma of patients and 30 healthy persons. We founded the increase of SOD activity in plasma GP activity in erythrocytes the increase of SOD-1 isoenzymes and MDA; and the decrease of SOD and GR activities in erythrocytes GP and GR activities in plasma of AS patients at admission as compared with healthy persons. After the treatment we noted the increase of SOD and GR activties in erythrocytes GP and GR activities in plasma the decrease of SOD activity in plasma GP activity in erythrocytes and the increase of SOD-2 isoenzymes as compared with initial stage of treatment. The SOD and GP activities in plasma were lower in patients with visceritis than in patients with central rizomelic and Scandinavian forms. Activity in the plasma in patients with central form was higher than in patients with peripheral form. We did not reveal essential differences depending on stage of articular affections. Determination of SOD GP GR activities in AS patients promote the better diagnostics of the disease differential diagnostics of the disease's forms and control for efficiency of the therapy. le
