Abstract: Describes the case of a 40-yr-old woman who began to experience musicogenic epilepsy (epilepsy evoked by a musical stimulus) in response to most kinds of music. The S also experienced other forms of epilepsy, and movements like swimming, cycling, and dancing could all trigger epileptic fits that were not responsive to medication. The S's musicogenic epilepsy was attributed to her previous psychotraumatic experiences. Treatment included the use of imagery and counterconditioning, as well as specific therapy to deal with grief. The use of keywords helped to reduce seizures. Also, during certain kinds of music, the S experienced a cognitive and emotional state that was able to inhibit seizure activity.
