Why Must We Die?

Journal/Book: Natur- und Ganzheitsmedizin Wissenschaft und Praxis. 1992; 5/12: 342-345.

Abstract: Without death there wouldn't be any life. The time limitation of the individual's life was the pre-condition of phylogenetic development which also brought forth homo sapiens. Through death new combinations of genes can ever again take the place of the old ones, thus allowing successful adaption to changing environmental conditions. In this context environment is not to be equalled to nature. Today nature, as environment untouched by man, hardly exists any longer. Instead there are anthropogenous ecological systems and culturescapes. Longer life expectancy and according world-wide over-population are reaching the biological limits of the ecological systems. Man consumes 40 percent of the earth's net biological primary products. The remaining three million species have to split the rest amongst them. The survival of the many individual people becomes contradictory to the survival of the genus.
