Motor performance differentitations in rehabilitation in case of knee instability and chondropathia patellae

Journal/Book: Physikalische Medizin Rehabilitationsmedizin Kurortmedizin. 1992; 2/3: 71-77.

Abstract: Being in the later post operative period of rehabilitation (14th post-operative week) 40 patients after ligament injuries and 24 patients with chondropathia patellae underwent a 6 weeks' therapeutical exercise practice programme because of a considerable atrophy of their knee muscles. There were definite criteria to get into the therapy and control groups. During the course of treatment we had the following control parameters: differences of circumference of the thigh, maximum potentials of innervation of the m. quadriceps femoris and- comparing both sides - the maximum strength of extension (90-60°) of the knee.During the entire course of time the gained data were statistically evaluated and analysed comparing both sides and comparing both groups of diseases.Besides the considerable motor starting deficits the results show a relatively parallel running regenerative development in both of the case groups, whereas the patients with chondropathia patellae show greater deficits than those with ligament injuries. The progression of the motor regeneration is considered as a therapeutical influence, and therefore it shows a convincing efficiency of the based exercise programme.
