Selenium can Reduce the Cancer Risk

Abstract: Industrial waste products in the shape of pesticides, herbicides, mineral oil products, nitrates, and arsenic more and more increase cancer risk. On the one hand we will have to possibly eliminate these cancerogens and co-cancerogens from our environment. But an the other hand the immunological system which can retransform malignant cells into normal cells must be strengthened. For that the antioxidants play an important role. Most of the carcinogenous compounds need a metabolic activation - most commonly an oxidation reaction. Selenium, as a functional part of the glutathione peroxidase is of central importance in cancer prevention, as several studies have shown.
