Effect of gossypol on testes & epididymis of albino rats

Abstract: The effect of gossypol an male gonads was studie in albino rats. The rats (50) were randomly divided into 4 groups; while group-1 served as the control, 2, 3 and 4 were treated with pure gospel acetic acid, in a dosage of 20, 30 and*40 mg/kg/day for 8 wk respectively. The testes and epididymis showed changes in gossypol treated animals. Testis showed necrotic change in seminiferous tubules in 42, 75 and 93 per cent of rats in groups 2, 3 and 4 respectively. In the epididymis, evidence of degenerative changes in epithelial lining was observed in 42, 58 and 71 per cent of rats in groups 2, 3 and 4 respectively. The study thus demonstrated that besides testes, epididymis also gets affected by gossypol treatment.
