Can Music Therapy be Jusitified in Empirical Terms ?

Abstract: The music therapy still seems to search For its identity, as the discussion to distinguish between music therapy and music education shows. The meaning differs of what music therapy is or should be. It is stated that not only in this context but also in connection with practical questions of music therapy many assertions are speculative. Examples are given. So the author postulates a stronger empirical basis of music therapy. Primarily one should ask what the medium of music can really effect. This means, it is necessary to accentuate the outcome research in a higher degree than it is done so far. Considerations on problems, on the present situation and logical consequences are given under the point of view of research and practical experience.
