Abstract: From the Division of Anesthesiology Department of Surgery University of Rochester Medical Center Received for publication Jan. 26 1965 *Markle Scholar in Academic Medicine **Director of Research Air-Shields Inc. Hatboro Pa. SUMMARY The monitoring of pulsatile flow in the peripheral circulation during and after operative procedures is a useful end point for evaluating the result of vascular surgery. A method of accomplishing this with a photoelectric pickup is simple in Operation and requires very little equipment other than a commonly available electrocardiograph. Case presentations recount our experience with the technique. The limitations and advantages of monitoring only the pulsatile part of total blood flow are discussed and other applications of the method are suggested. . . .
