Kohgewächse (Brassicaceae): bekannte Gemüsepflanzen, Öllieferanten und Würzkräuter, deren Arzneiwirkung oft vergessen wird |
Journal/Book: Erfahrungsheilkunde. 2001; 50/6: 322-339.
Abstract: Cabbage plants are regarded by most people as vegetables and sometimes, when people think of mustard, they are regarded as spice. We hardly remember, that several species of this large family have a medicinal effect, e.g. the extracts from white cabbage (Brassica oleracea) which are used in the case of gastritis and the gastrocardiac syndrome. One reason, that the medicinal use is hardly familiar, is that people do not know, which genuses belong to cabbage plants (Brassicaceae). In the popular gillyflower (Cheiranthus cheiri L.) as well as in the related treacle mustard (Erysimum) cardio-active glucosides are present. Horseradish (Armoracia), spoonwort (Cochlearia), radish (Raphanus), and watercress (Naturtium) show favorable effects in the case of diseases of the respiratory and digestive organs. Case weed (Capsella bursa pastoris L. Medicus) helps in the case of menorrhagias and metorrhagias and clown's mustard (Iberis amara L.) stimulates the activity of stomach and bile. Even the admirer of ornamental plants gets his money's worth, when he decorates his garden with pulvinus (Aubrieta).
