Abstract: Persons with hearing loss can obtain great benefit from hearing aids but there are many situations that traditional amplification devices will provide insufficient help to ensure optimal communication. Assistive listening technology has been developed to aid persons with hearing loss in many of these difficult communication environments such as listening in noise or from a distance. This article reviews assistive listening technologies and recommends ways rehabilitation counselors may interface with audiologists to provide appropriate devices to their clients.
