Morality as adaptive problem-solving for conflicts of power

Abstract: Boehm's paper is a piece of speculation, but of careful and empirically founded speculation, which is stimulating methodologically and empirically. Being a cultural anthropologist, I will confine my comments mainly to the parts of Boehm's argument concerned with social control mechanisms using moral pressure.
