Influence of SulphurAdministration on Lipid Levels, Antioxidative Status and Peroxide Concentration inHealth Resort Patients

Abstract: The aim of the study was to test the effect of drinking sulphurous mineral water on lipid status and antioxidative balance in patients with degenerative arthroses during a 3-week stay in a health resort. Two groups of patients with and without drinking sulphurous water were investigated. Lipid levels, glutathione peroxidase, superoxidedismutase, antioxidative status, and peroxide concentration in plasma were measured. In both groups similar alterations of the activities of antioxidative enzymes as well as peroxide concentrations could be detected. Possible specific effects of drinking sulphurous mineral water have to be investigated in further studies.
