Aspects of phytotherapy in medicine

Abstract: The various opinions about the use and medical importance of phytotherapy and medicinal plants are explained and discussed. Although phytotherapy is used extensively in human medicine in Germany, this is not the case in veterinary medicine. The importance of phytotherapy and medicinal plants will increase in future for two reasons. First, to provide economical prophylactic and therapeutic treatments; and secondly to detect new active ingredients and complexes especially in the immune and other regulatory systems.
