Constructivism and teaching - Is there a new approach to general didactics? |

Abstract: After a long time of paradigmatic stability in the field of General Didactic (Allgemeine Didaktik) the proponents of the ''constructivistic didactic'' claim to formulate a new approach on a theoretical as well as on a practical level. This claim is analyzed and evaluated: First four background theories of constructivistic didactic are sketched, then its central arguments are reconstructed, some examples of practical constructivistic teaching recommendations are given, and finally constructivistic didactic is critically analyzed in the context of a theory of learning in schools. The result is, that constructivistic didactic is not a new paradigm in the sense its proponents claim it to be.
