Communication problems? - The language of social pedagogics in the field of tension between scientific and professional practice

Abstract: The author examines the specific function of language in both the academic-disciplinary and the practical-professional context of social pedagogics. This differentiation is introduced in order to make clear that language serves different functions in the respective contexts of use and that, in each, it raises specific problems of communication, presentation, and comprehension. Against this background, a relativization of the demand for comprehensibility seems to be called for, which has to take into account the characteristics of each respective field.
