Abstract: Reprint of the article in Journal of Music Therapy (1975), with an introduction by Lars Ole Bonde. Original abstract: Maps of consciousness describe areas of the psyche to be explored through the medium of programmed music. Induction techniques and music stimuli evoke imagery of all the senses to allow subjects access intense feeling states. The technique of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM) is an effective tool in individual and group psychiatric apllication and as a projective device for personalgrowth in the normal population. Instructions as to procedure and illustrations taken from personal accounts are included.
