New pharmacologically active substances from marine fungi

Abstract: This article offers a chemical and pharmacological survey of new pharmacologically active metabolites from marine fungi most of which have antifungal, antibacterial or cytostatic activity. Even though, substances with antiinflammatory, immune modulating or central effects can also be found. These substances show a very high structural variability. Since marine fungi are biotechnologically cultivatable, they or their compounds are expected to play a greater role in medicine in future than they do today
