Abstract: The article describes a study aimed at depicting the aesthetically oriented person as an integrated structural entity. Based on the assumption that criteria of form, such as simplicity and complexity, can be applicable to representing a personality type (pattern), structure was taken as a metaphor for discussing and integrating personality variables. Traits, values, self-actualisation and aesthetic preference were seen as structural components that can contribute to a holistic representation of the aesthetically oriented person as a form entity. Scores on a psychometric test battery, including a preference scale consisting of abstract paintings, showed significant differences between a low and a high aesthetic group. By conceptually integrating the personality characteristics and structural characteristics of preferred paintings. An aesthetically oriented personality type emerged that is associated with criteria of form.
