Abstract: The studies of the occurrence of mental disorders include general population prevalence studies, but increasingly include epidemiological studies of risk factors for psychiatric illness. An important development is a beginning integration of genetic and environmental risk factors, as well as prevalence studies outside North America and Western Europe.
