Abstract: This study looked at the relationships between a measure of epistemic style (one's preferred style for gaining knowledge), and measures of creativity and childhood fantasy behavior. It was hypothesized that childhood fantasy behavior might contribute to the development of an internal epistemic orientation and greater openness and flexibility as an adult. Participants were assessed using the Psycho-Epistemological Profile, the Preconscious Activity Scare, the Wilson-Barber inventory of Childhood Memories and Imaginings, and a revised form of the fantasy scale developed by Antrobus and Singer. An intercorrelation matrix and a principal components factor analysis revealed a clear relationship among childhood fantasy behavior, creativity, and an internal epistemic style. Possible implications of these findings are discussed.
