Abstract: I clearly remember the day my Dad told my sisters and me that he would take us to see The Jackson Five in concert. I had memorized their lyrics while listening to their albums and spent hours watching them on television variety shows. I remember the day felt spectacular and magical. When they came on stage, time seemed to stop, and I just knew Michael knew me and was singing to me alone, even though I was seated in the back of the balcony. He was the coolest boy I knew, and this concert served to deepen my interest in popular music as well as my interest in boys. Today, when I hear Michael Jackson, I can still remember what it felt like to be twelve years old. It was a good time.-the author, a symbolic starting point in conversions with preadolescent girls.
