, ,Abstract: A study group of 128 infants hospitalised for RS virus infection was randomised into two groups. Sixtysix patients were treated for two weeks with Engystol N intramuscular in addition to the usual standard therapy, 62 patients received only standard therapy. On the fifth day of treatment a faster regression of the symptoms was observed in the verum group in comparison to the control group. After the two-week therapy, a clear increase of the activity of phagocytosis was registered in the verum group compared to the base level.Over the period of 2-6 months after discharge from hospital (during the first two months the infants took Engystol or placebo orally at home) significantly less infants of the verum group fell ill with airway infections compared to the placebo group. The results of the study show a positive effect of Engystol N in the treatment of infants with RS virus infections.
