Geistheilung: bloß ein Placebo?Auseinandersetzung mit einem dürftigen Argument |
Abstract: Three million Germans, who are mainly chronically ill and who are taken to be "therapeutically resistant" by physicians, entrust themselves to one of 7000 faith healers every year. The average duration of their disease has been seven years, but after a few sessions with persons who heal by laying on of hand, through prayers, through conjuring away, or by similar methods, 60 percent of the persons treated in such a way, reported a significant alleviation of their complaints and nearly every tenth reported even a complete recovery. Are these people taken in by placebos - pseudodrugs, which are only effective, because these people believe in their effect? This is a common argument, when orthodox physicians try to explain away the success of faith healing and there is hardly any argument, which is substantiated in such a poor way. In this article a dozen reasons are explained, why the "placebo argument" fails.
