Abstract: Previous research on the correlates of suicide attitudes has neglected gender specific analysis as well as research on other nations. In particular, the influences of female financial satisfaction on female suicide attitudes has been neglected. The present study explores the impact of financial satisfaction on female suicide attitudes using a national sample of 321 Chinese women. Controlling for alternative predictors of approval of suicide, the greater the financial satisfaction, the less the approval of suicide. The findings are related to a strain theory of deviant behavior attitudes and recent developments in Chinese society which foster financial dissatisfaction. A separate analysis of 507 Chinese men suggests that men and women in China follow a similar etiology of suicide attitudes.
