Abstract: All professional interaction between younger und older persons is consciously marked by lack of knowledge of the older person's development and previous life experience, confrontation with difficult aspects of aging, earlier German history and the issue of aging for the younger person. There is also at first an unconscious inverted transference constellation resulting from the revival of a parent-child or grandparent-child relationship. Satisfactory professional work with the elderly requires reflection on one's own aging, continuing training and supervision.
