Abstract: The present research tests the short and long term effects of a training program designed for mothers assessed through two different procedures (audiovisual vs. Therapeutical). To achieve this we used a sample of 60 mothers who were assigned to three experimental conditions randomly: a group trained by an expert, a group trained by a videotape and a group of control placebo. The results show that the experimental groups reached significant results compared with the control group, not only in the measures of the post-test but in the follow-up. The comparison between the treatment groups does not reach significant diferences in both moments (post-test and follow-up), even though the tendency of the data suggest the superiority of the group trained by means of a videotape. Finally, the clinical and theoretical implications of these findings and the major areas of research interest are discussed.
