On the nature and utility of projective tests and objective tests |
Journal/Book: J Personal Assess. 1997; 69: 10 Industrial Ave, Mahwah, NJ 07430-2262. Lawrence Erlbaum Assoc Inc. 257-270.
Abstract: This article briefly reviews the empirical evidence on the participant-examiner interaction and describes the extent to which actuarial methods of using projective materials now dominate the literature. Objective and projective means of assessing personality are then compared. Long-term behavior is predicted more efficiently by projective methods whereas short-term behavior is predicted better by objective tests.
