The history of the clinical application of interpretation |
Journal/Book: Forum Psychoanal. 1997; 13: 175 Fifth Ave, New York, NY 10010. Springer Verlag. 191-210.
Abstract: The important points of change in the concept of interpretation are demonstrated in a journey through the history of psychoanalytic theory, with particular emphasis on the discussion of the concept's clinical application. The way in which the theoretical development of the concept, its clinical understanding and modifications in its usage are interwoven, is illustrated. In order to do this, the Anglo-American tradition in the period after the Second World War is examined in its development, as this also reflects the main theoretical developments within German psychoanalysis.
