Abstract: It seems, that in the situation of the postmodern turn most representatives of mainstream Anglo-Saxon sociology of macrotheoretical orientation are not interested in joining this process. For them the postmodernist paradigm seems to be incompatible with their intention to build a universal sociological theory. Therefore, they remain faithful to the positivist paradigm. Simultaneously such branches of sociological knowledge as sociology of everyday life manifest the readiness to challenge of the postmodernist paradigm. Its critical attitude to the limits of modern society enables it to identify principal characteristics of present-day society, that is in process of transition from modernity to postmodernity.
