HPLC-method on the basis of cichoric acid and alkamides for the standardization of Echinacea purpurea preparations prepared from expressed juice |
Abstract: For the standardization of Echinacea purpurea preparations prepared from expressed juice, HPLC methods are described for the determination of cichoric acid and alkamides (dodecatetraenoic acid isobutylamides). With commercial samples, the present quality status is demonstrated. Regarding alkamides, the content ranges from 0,1-1,8 mg/100 ml. The content of cichoric acid varies more dramatically (0 - 0,4 %) due to inconsistent inhibition of the enzymatic degradation of cichoric acid.
