Placebo-controlled, double-blind study of Echinaceae pallidae radix in upper respiratory tract infections

Abstract: A double-blind randomized controlled trial to evaluate the use of Echinaceae pallidae radix in flulike upper respiratory symptoms is reported. This study demonstrates a highly significant result for the herbal remedy Echinaceae, as compared to placebo. The length of illness (P < 0.0001), overall symptom scores (P < 0.0004) and whole clinical scores (P < 0.001) all demonstrate a significant result for real treatment as compared to placebo.
